Over the years, the term “supergroup” has been used to describe many amazing bands that have been formed using members of other successful bands. Asia, Bad Company, Blind Faith, Traveling Wilburys, and many other amazing rock legends have been placed into this category by various music pundits. Today, ground(ctrl) is proud to announce four new bands to be added to this legendary category.
While none of us ground(ctrl) employees quite reached rock and roll stardom (though some of us blew through our record advances like we were on top of the world), a number of us had gone out and played our songs for the world to hear resulting in some moderate success. Some of us continue to play shows to this day, while some of us haven’t dusted off our instruments in years. Today marks the beginning of a new musical path for every member of the ground(ctrl) team. By random drawing, we have assembled four new bands consisting solely of staff members. In the coming weeks, these bands will be assigned two ground(ctrl) clients via another random drawing. The bands will then learn how to play a song by their assigned clients and will perform these songs at a “battle of the bands” that will be taking place at the ground(ctrl) winter holiday party. VIPs anyone?
Here are the currently nameless bands:
Anthony / Brandon / Justin S / Matt / Mike / Robert / Thomas
Jennie / Joel / Mark / Ryan / Scott / Vanessa / Jared
Alex / Eddie / Jake / Phil / Steve R / Vince / Megan
Brent / Gavin / Greg / Justin J / Kiel / Steve K / John
Well I am not really much of a blogger but here it goes…..kind of…..
Every June Nashville holds CMA Fest (formally fanfare) that brings in country music fans from all over the country as well as pretty much EVERY name in country music. Fan club parties, meet and greets, public performances, softball games, BBQ, beer, short shorts and a TON of cowboy boots.
One of the most pressing issues we have experienced in recent months is within our shipping department, more specifically; accurate tracking of packages shipped via the United States Postal Service. Currently USPS provides a “delivery confirmation number”, this number simply tracks if your package has been picked up and updates when your package has been delivered, no status updates happen along the way and tracking stops *if a package leaves the United States.
In most cases in our business we are in 100% control of the customer experience and are able to respond quickly and definitively. When it comes to shipping, it’s a leap of faith in our partners. A leap that doesn’t always pan out the way any of us would like.
We are happy to announce effective May 1st 2010, ground(ctrl) will be switching our primary shipping partner from the United States Postal Service to UPS Mail Innovations. Over the past 4 months UPS representatives have been kind enough to work very closely with our development team to determine a plan to better serve our customers while maintaining a low cost. Although packages will continue to be delivered to your door by USPS, all the tracking & most of the transit are handled by the UPS.
The way this works:
Customer orders are processed via the UPS system and picked up from ground(ctrl) by UPS. Packages are then sent to a UPS sorting facility, placed on UPS planes and sent as close to the destination as possible. Once sorted the packages are passed off to the local USPS (or international service, i.e. Canadian Post) to be delivered to your door.
What this means to you:
• UPS tracking (Domestic orders only)
• Faster Ship Times
• More Reliable Delivery
What about international?
The bad news first, neither USPS or UPS Mail Innovations provide actual tracking data outside of the United States.
The good news is that the United States Postal Service will be cut out of transit all together for international packages, ground(ctrl) will pass your package on to UPS, the package will arrive at a sorting facility and then be routed to the destination country. This streamlined process will allow ground(ctrl) to digitally handle customs forms via UPS clearing the way for faster ship times and lessening the risk of hang ups at customs.
What about overnight?
These changes mark the beginning of many service changes & options being put in place for our customers at ground(ctrl). In the next few months customers will be allowed to pay extra for overnight delivery, or ship via UPS International (bringing the benefit of tracking to international orders), and various other common services available from UPS.
** VATs & International Tariffs will continue to be assessed by local customs offices – these charges are not made available to ground(ctrl), UPS, or our partners at the time of checkout, thus we are unable to charge these fees at time of purchase.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 (IE 6) is old software by any measure. It was released in August 2001, two years before MySpace was launched, three months before the first iPod was introduced, and one month before theSeptember 11th terrorist attacks on the United States.
Older web browsers can’t provide the same level of experience that modern web browsers can. Because IE 6 lacks support for many web standards introduced over the past decade, it is not possible for ground(ctrl) developers to provide a rich internet experience to the majority of the users of our system that are running modern web browsers. Supporting IE 6 slows progress and cripples innovation.
Popular websites and services like YouTube, Facebook, and Gmail have also stopped or intend to stop supporting IE 6 in the near future for these reasons.Google announced it’s intention to drop support for IE 6 for it’s web application services starting March 1st of 2010.
While much of the content on our websites is accessible to older browsers, we do not guarantee a problem free experience when using them. Instead, we urge visitors our websites to use a newer web browser, such as Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Opera, or a newer version Microsoft Internet Explorer (currently at version 8 as of this writing). All of these web browsers are 100% free, and with the exception of Internet Explorer 8, are available for Mac OS X and Windows XP, Vista, and 7.
ground(ctrl) encourages you to update your web browser often to keep your computer safe, and to ensure you can take advantage of all the new things the web has to offer. Welcome to the modern internet, ladies and gentlemen. You are in for a great show.
